About
Dr. Jessica Gold is a computational social scientist whose work focuses on the intersection of AI, inequality, organizations, and social systems. She is currently the Scientific Collaboration Officer at the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE), where she supports and coordinates global research collaborations on the social impacts of the information environment. She also serves as a Consulting Scientist for the IPIE's Panel on AI and Economic Inclusion, working with a team of international experts to produce systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and policy reports that inform equitable policy and community response across domains, including finance, education, employment, and healthcare.
Her sociological research examines gender and racial inequality in scientific careers, with a focus on academic STEM fields. Using computational text analysis, social network analysis, statistical modeling, and qualitative interviews, she studies how organizational structures and cultural beliefs shape inequity in higher education and research systems. Her continuing research includes an international collaboration based in Berlin that investigates beliefs about meritocracy and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives across universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Previously, Dr. Gold was an Associate Research Scientist at Northeastern University, working with Kathrin Zippel and Laura K. Nelson on projects studying knowledge dissemination in a multi-institutional network of gender equity scholars. In 2023-24, she was an ARC Visiting Virtual Scholar, where she produced a meta-analysis report for STEM equity professionals.
Dr. Gold received her PhD and MA in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, and a BA in Sociology from the College of William and Mary. Outside of work, she spends as much time as possible rock climbing, backpacking, and exploring the outdoors.
